Key Points on Oregon Victory Over SC

SATURDAY
My observations of a convincing victory by the Ducks in the Coliseum.

*
ESPN Analyst Robert Smith called the Oregon defense "a fraud, on all three levels", this past week on College Football Live. That's a so-called "expert" of ESPN just not doing his homework.
This was just another example of solid play by the Ducks D.
Oregon gave up two touchdowns and a field goal in the first half. 17 points. The remaining 14 points scored by SC in the second half were on very short fields...21 yards after a huge kickoff return and 11 yards after an interception off a tipped pass by Thomas.

SC's DB's, both defending against the pass and trying to stop the run, looked just awful.
Jawanza Starling especially. Shareece Wright, a captain on this team, didn't look much better.
Jeff Maehl is by far and away Oregon's number one receiver. Most dangerous guy on the team behind LMJ. He was running circles around the Trojans tonight.

Linebackers were continually out of position. Most of LMJ's gains of five yards or more were right up the middle. He would get to the second level and there would be huge swaths of open field around him.

My mind instantly goes to the question of How well does a 19-year-old student-athlete relate to a 70-year-old man? Especially one who has come in and implemented a defensive scheme that does not give the defensive backs the greatest chance to be successful.

What would you be thinking, if you were someone like LB Chris Gallippo after losing one of the best position coaches in the Pac-10 in Ken Norton Jr., now replaced by 70-year-old Monte Kiffin and his Tampa 2 defensive scheme?
