SUNDAYInteresting blog post on Casey Matthews by The Oregonian's Ken Goe. It is titled Casey Matthews has no regrets about becoming a Duck. His post begins, "I wrote a profile of Oregon linebacker Casey Matthews, who broke with tradition and played his college football in Eugene instead of USC. Matthews' father, uncle and two brothers played at Troy. Matthews opted for the Ducks in 2007. Now, he stands by his choice and sounds almost wistful as he heads into his senior season."
Reality is, unlike the rest of his family, Casey never received an offer from SC. He could have attempted to walk-on and earn a scholarship but given the talent level at the time, that would have been a real challenge. Casey attended Oaks Christian HS in Westlake Village. Unbelievable football program. It is where you send your child should you be rich, famous and live in Malibu. I recall listening to an interview on 570 KLAC with Clay Matthews in which he confirmed his little brother was not offered by Ken Norton Jr. and the Trojans. Just taking a quick look at eDuck, I see offers from Oregon, ASU, Cal, Clemson, Colorado, GT and Tennessee.
